The Jewish Community in Tucson

Curious about the Jewish Community in Tucson? In the North Central heart of Tucson, near the base of Catalina Foothills Mountains, you’ll find a “Jewish Campus” housing The Tucson Jewish Community Center, the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona, The Tucson Hebrew Academy, The Jewish Post and other synagogues.  These organizations are walking distance from each other.   Because of the close proximity, the Tucson Jewish Community has a “centralized” pulse, and has a strong presence.
Of course, there are many Jewish organizations spread throughout the town as well and there are no shortage of synagogue choices (there are 14 of them!) and Jewish services as well outside the Jewish “campus”.
Downtown Tucson houses the Jewish History Museum.  The intimate Museum is located in the refurbished Stone Avenue Synagogue, the first synagogue in Tucson.  Centrally, you can find Handmaker Jewish Service for the Aging, Jewish Family & Children Services, University of Arizona Hillel Foundation and the Chabad House.  Just about 10 minutes north of the Jewish campus, the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona is housed, and remains a strong presence in Tucson.
Feeling welcome and finding a Jewish “home” in Tucson is simple.  The Tucson Jewish Community Center is a great place to start.  You can connect through the Jewish Concierge, who hosts ongoing newcomer events. Additionally, throughout the year, collaborative happenings are hosted at the Tucson JCC that connect Jewish agencies and individuals to one another.  By participating, in a matter of months, you’ll feel at home because it’s easy to get to know one another and connect in Tucson’s “small”, centralized Jewish community.
